Ford Recalls 870,000 F-150 Trucks Due to Parking Brake Malfunction

Ford Motor has issued a recall for approximately 870,000 F-150 pickup trucks due to a faulty parking brake that may activate on its own, potentially causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The recall affects F-150 models from 2021 to 2023, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in its recall documents posted on Friday. The issue is attributed to damage in the wiring of some F-150s, which could trigger the activation of the parking brake while the vehicle is in motion, leading to a loss of control and potential crash.

Drivers experiencing the brake light problem may notice a warning light on the vehicle’s panel, according to NHTSA documents.

Ford has documented 918 warranty claims and three field reports of wire chafing in North America. Out of these incidents, 299 involved unexpected parking brake activation, and 19 occurred while the trucks were being driven. However, at this time, Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries resulting from this problem.

The automaker has announced that the issue will be resolved free of charge by installing a protective tie strap and tape wrap at authorized Ford dealerships.

If you have any questions regarding the F-150 recall, you can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332, using the recall number 23S35, or reach out to the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
