MYSURU: Nearly six months after the launch of the ambitious Gruha Jyothi scheme, tenants are finding it difficult to update the connection details when they shift houses. Gruha Jyothi is the scheme of the Congress government which provides free electricity of 200 units to individual households.Authorities warned that as Aadhaar is a legal document if the tenant fails to update the application details, it may lead to loss of benefit under the scheme.According to tenants who shifted their houses recently, they are not able to modify their account and connection details online. “I shifted to another house in November 2023. In the newly rented house, I used the Aadhaar number of my wife to get the benefit as my number was linked to the account number of the previous house. In the previous house, the new tenant is getting free electricity based on my Aadhaar document which was seeded,” claimed a city resident. No option to update the details “After the scheme was launched hundreds of families have changed their houses. But only a few are approaching the offices to update the details. Most of our staff is also not aware of the procedure,” explained an officer.Anil Kumar Nadiger, an energy specialist, stated that this error must be corrected immediately. “If any customer is denied the benefits of the Gruha Jyothi due to a technical glitch, the government should refund the bill amount until the problem is resolved. The administration must come up with a solution as soon as possible,” he stated.CN Sridhara, managing director of Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Ltd, Mysuru said the public can update the new connection details by visiting the nearest CESC offices. “Online option is also provided for this purpose,” he added.
